VTech MobiGo Touch Learning System Review

Definitely one of the hottest toys of the year, the VTech MobiGo threatens to steal the spotlight this Christmas and to never give it back! The guys at VTech are getting better and better at developing excellent gadgets for kids.

At first there was the cool Tote & Go Laptop, then the V Reader, but now the MobiGo simply dwarfs the competition with its great design and great functionality. It weighs about 3 pounds and is small enough for a kid to carry it around from place to place, so it's great for fun on the go. The touch screen is quite large and has a nice 320x240 resolution, making the graphics unusually good looking for such a small gadget.

The MobiGo Touch Learning System is mainly created for educational purposes. You will see that the grand majority of games you can play on the MobiGo have a high educational value. There are several ways to play these games. One is, of course, to use the touch screen. It responds to the different ways you touch it. You can tap, spin and drag stuff on the screen to score points and win the game. Then again, you can play games using your slide out QWERTY keyboard. And the games are really nice, let me tell you. For example, there is a game where you need to shoot little plastic ducklings that appear on the screen. Each duckling has a letter “tattooed” on its body, and you shoot it by finding that letter on the QWERTY keyboard and pressing it. Needless to say, this game and many others like it are very useful if you want your kid to learn some early ABCs.

On the sides you have the buttons to turn it on and off, adjust screen brightness and volume, you've got the headphone jack and the USB port for file transfers from your computer. A great thing is that the keyboard doesn't feel really “toy like”. Makes you feel you have more control.

Costs about $60, and the cartridges are around $20. It runs with 4 AA batteries and it's made for kids between 3 and 8 years old.

Q: Should I buy it?
A:Yup! Definitely.

PS: If interested, on my website I have another review of the VTech MobiGo.
